I LOVE First Birthday’s! Any activity that involves CAKE makes me happy! I have to tell you, creating fun and pretty Cake Smash set ups is one of my favorite things to do! Cleaning up after Cake Smash session, not so much. haha! When this little guys mother contacted me, she wanted something very clean and simple with a touch of blue. I love the super clean modern look so I was pretty excited about this. I think we came up with the perfect little set for him. Silver stars! The icing on the cake was that contagious smile and those adorable curls!
I love to provide my clients with a nice variety of photos in their gallery when they come to me for the first birthday sessions. Cake Smash Sessions start off with some simple portrait photos of the baby capturing cute smiles and personality. These are usually photographed with a few different simple props from my studio. Often babies have just learnt to walk so it is a challenge capturing those fast little movers. When you have just learnt to walk, all you want to do is run!
Once we have captured some beautiful portrait photos of the little ones, that’s when the fun begins. Out comes the CAKE! Yup, no shame here… this is my favorite part! Time to get down and messy! I provide my parents with a local baker that does an amazing job at designing beautiful original birthday cakes, perfect for Cake Smash Sessions. You tell them what you want and they create it. Every cake they have made has been perfection! As you can see, this little guys cake could not have been more perfect for this simple star set up.
Sometimes it takes a little coaxing to get them started, but as soon as they taste that first hit of sugar, there is no looking back! And, if all else fails, a few cheerios stuck into the back of the cake always gets them digging!
And once we have finished making a mess… it is usually time to clean up. Best way to get frosting off a baby is put them in the tub! Cake smash sessions finish with a bubble bath to clean off all the frosting. Or in most cases, to splash around and make even more mess. Haha. But, it definitely makes for great photos. Most of the time, the babies enjoy the bath time more than the cake smashing time. Go figure.
